Online sales of cars and bikes are set to take-off in a big way in India, with Flipkart, the leading domestic online marketplace, tying up with two dealers in Bengaluru and offering to sell Maruti Suzuki cars and Bajaj motorcycles to consumers.

Flipkart's move comes in the wake of the success of Snapdeal's initiative in the online sale of vehicles. Last month, the online marketplace set up Snapdeal Motors to handle the growing demand for two-wheelers from consumers, especially in tier-II and tier-III cities.Flipkart has launched a pilot initiative in Bengaluru, tying up with Kalyani Motors for Maruti cars and Khivraj Motors for Bajaj two-wheelers. Flipkart already lists automobile accessories as being among the top-10 sales item category in the major cities.
While initially it has been selling bikes and scooters of Hero Motors, it plans to add Mahindra,Suzuki Motorcycles and Datsun bikes to its list of bike brands.
